The Foxfire Museum and Heritage Center - Mountain City GA

Remember a time before electricity, hot-and-cold running water, the comforts of department stores?  Imagine a time when most of what you owned was made by you?  Time felt different then.  Revisit that era at The Foxfire Museum on Foxfire Lane, off Cross Street, in Mountain City, GA.  By encountering the log cabins, tools, and tangible remnants of those early days, you’ll find the real Appalachia and an appreciation for the difficulty and hardships of the life.  The Museum allows visitors to imaginatively re-create the works and days of southern Appalachian people.  Visit our information center on Black Rock Mountain Parkway off Highway 441 in Mountain City for a map to the Museum, or call us for directions at 706-746-5828.  Hours: Mon. – Sat., 8:30 to 4:30 EST; closed Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.  Admission: $5 per adult; children 10 & under, free; one self-guided tour booklet per family is included.  Guided tours are available Monday – Friday for groups of 6 to 25, by appointment only. Email foxfire@foxfire.org for further information on guided tours.
